Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation Program

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and potentially debilitating disease that can progressively lead to severe complications, affecting vital organs and potentially causing organ system failure. Effective management of MS requires comprehensive care and proactive intervention to mitigate these risks.

The Republic of Cuba boasts extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of Multiple Sclerosis. The Republic of Cuba’s healthcare professionals are adept at accurately identifying the true health condition of patients and providing thorough education on all possible measures to reduce the risk levels associated with this disease. Cuba’s Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation Program is designed to offer personalized care, combining advanced diagnostic techniques, innovative treatment options, and comprehensive rehabilitation services. By focusing on patient education and empowerment, we aim to improve quality of life, slow disease progression, and minimize the impact of MS on daily living.


Evaluation and consultation:

  • Initial evaluation, consultation, clinical history review and confection of medical records
  • Medical Interconsultation with neurology specialist
  • Medical Interconsultation with rehabilitation specialist
  • Additional consultation with rehabilitation specialist (2)
  • Medical consultation with internal medicine specialist
  • Medical consultation with physiatrist
  • Medical consultation with psychologist
  • Medical consultation with neurologist
  • Medical consultation with natural and traditional medicine
  • Medical consultation with specialists in podiatry

  • Complete Blood Count with Differential (CBC) test
  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) test
  • Glycemia test
  • Serology test
  • Quantitative Serology test
  • Total Proteins test
  • VDRL test
  • Electrophoresis of Proteins test
  • Electrophoresis of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) test
  • Lipid Profile test
  • IgG, IgA and IgM test
  • Anti-double Stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) test
  • HLA-D Antigen test

IMAGING AND OTHER INVESTIGATIONS:

  • Electrocardiogram investigation
  • Chest X ray
  • Short Latency Median Nerve SSEP (Somatosensory Evoked Potentials) investigation
  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance of skull investigation
  • Posterior Tibial Nerve SSEP (Somatosensory Evoked Potentials) investigation
  • Auditory Evoked Potentials investigation
  • Magnetic Stimulation-Motor Evoked Potential MEPs investigation
  • Visual Evoked Potentials investigation

Treatment program:

  • Evaluation of physical exercises and physiotherapy
  • Comprehensive disability evaluation,
  • Neuro Intensive multifactorial rehabilitation. This activity is subject to changes depending on the general state of the patient and at the discretion of the physiatrist.
  • Physiotherapist treatment possible to perform including:
    Poly physiotherapy (exercises and gymnastics)
    Magnetic bed
    Electrical stimulation.
    Training for daily activities
    Pressotherapy
    Locomotive therapy
  • Acupuncture sessions
  • Ozone Therapy (20 sessions)
  • Treatment with Botulinum toxin (Botox).
  • Re-consultation of neurology and Physiatry
  • Specialized Psychotherapy Sessions
  • Daily Activities Training
  • Specialized Pool Exercises
  • Inpatient medical care
  • Final Report

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • The above program does not include medications for certain conditions such as
    depression, blood coagulation, etc.
  • Medicaments, fluids, blood and derivatives to be used, as well as additional procedure(s) performed not included in the exact treatment would be invoiced separately on upon the conclusion of said treatment / procedure(s)

ACCOMMODATION

Private room with the following features:
  • Electronic patient bed
  • Equipment for disabled patient
  • Oxygen hookup
  • Three AP meals taking into account the patient’s preferences and / or special diets prescribed by physician
  • Fully equipped private bathroom
  • Infirmary and nursing care
  • Colour TV with national and international channels
  • Local and international phone services (extra cost will apply)
  • Safe box
  • Internet service on every floor
  • Laundry services

ADDITIONAL SERVICES INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM:

  • Assistance in visa issuance and extension (If needs be)
  • Each patient/ companion will be assigned a multi-lingual field member with the mandate of attending to all of our patients’ translation and personal needs;
  • 20 hours internet service;
  • Local airport pickup and drop off; and
  • Hospital pickup and drop off (if needed)
