Functional Rehabilitation in the Elderly  

Functional rehabilitation for the elderly, or geriatric rehabilitation (GR), is a specialized field of medicine focused on the comprehensive assessment and therapeutic management of older adults with the aim of restoring, enhancing and improving functional capacity, particularly those with disabling impairments, chronic diseases, or injuries. The Cuban program involves a multidisciplinary approach, encompassing various medical, physical, psychological, and social aspects to address the complex health needs of the aging population with emphasis on preserving functional independence and improving the quality of life.  

Important aspects of the program include:  

  • Improving Mobility and Independence: Physical therapy and individualized exercise programs are developed to assist elderly people to regain strength, balance, and coordination, reducing the risk of falls and to enhance the ability to perform daily activities independently.  
  • Managing Chronic Conditions: Rehabilitation plan is developed to help in managing chronic conditions like arthritis, post-stroke, and Parkinson’s disease, and providing strategies to cope with symptoms and improve overall functionality.  
  • Enhancing Cognitive Function: Cognitive rehabilitation techniques can help reduce the effects of dementia and other cognitive disorders, promoting mental well-being and social engagement.   
  • Psychological Support: Counseling the emotional and psychological needs of elderly patients is vital in managing depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.  
  • Social Integration: Encouraging social interaction and participation in community activities can significantly improve the quality of life for older adults, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Imaging:

  • Electrocardiogram;
  • Ultrasound of joints and soft tissue;
  • Ultrasound of kidney;
  • Ultrasound of the bladder;
  • Ultrasound of the prostate

Treatment and rehabilitation:

is a method used utilizing precision exercise to promote healing and rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation utilizing the following methods:

  • Infrared heat
  • Laser
  • Interferential current
  • Massage
  • Postural treatment

Mechanotherapy rehabilitation utilizing the following two methods:

  • Mat
  • Bicycle
  • Psychomotor Rehabilitation
  • Bladder Rehabilitation (electro-stimulation)

  • The above program does not include medications for certain conditions such as
    depression, blood coagulation, etc.
  • Medicaments, fluids, blood and derivatives to be used, as well as additional procedure(s)performed not included in the exact treatment would be invoiced separately on upon the conclusion of said treatment / procedure(s)

Private room with the following features:
  • Electronic patient bed
  • Equipment for disabled patient
  • Oxygen hookup
  • Three AP meals taking into account the patient’s preferences and / or special diets prescribed by physician
  • Fully equipped private bathroom
  • Infirmary and nursing care
  • Colour TV with national and international channels
  • Local and international phone services (extra cost will apply)

  • Internet service on every floor
  • Laundry services

ADDITIONAL SERVICES INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM:

  • Assistance in visa issuance and extension (If needs be)
  • Each patient/ companion will be assigned a multi-lingual field member with the mandate of attending to all of our patients’ translation and personal needs;
  • 20 hours internet service;
  • Local airport pickup and drop off; and
  • Hospital pickup and drop off (if needed)
